Books have always been more than words on a page for me — they’ve been teachers, mirrors, and sometimes even lifelines. Each one I’ve picked up over the years has arrived at just the right moment, some helped me understand my own mind, others gave me tools to heal, and a few cracked me wide open to new ways of seeing myself, the world, people, money, and relationships.
But it wasn’t always this way. For a long time, I believed I couldn’t read, didn’t have the time, or simply didn’t need books. Looking back, I can see I was in survival mode — and in that state, being still with a book was never a priority. As a child, I looped the same movies again and again. As a teenager, I did the same with music, playing one song on repeat for hours. These were ‘repetitive comfort-seeking strategies’, ways my dysregulated nervous system clung to predictability when stillness felt unsafe.
The shift began when my wellbeing journey brought me into a place of greater safety and self-trust. That’s when reading and listening to audiobooks became possible. Not just skimming, but truly absorbing, reflecting, and letting the words reach me.
This blog isn’t just a list of “good reads.” It’s a map of my journey — the books that shaped me, challenged me, and guided me back to myself. You’ll find titles that comforted me in grief, inspired me to explore practices like mindfulness and journaling, and pushed me to face parts of myself I once ignored.
I’ll be revisiting many of these books in future blogs, exploring the lessons they taught me and how I wove them into my life. For now, this is the bookshelf of my becoming — and maybe, just maybe, one of these books will find you at exactly the right moment too.

My ADHD brain loves audiobooks—I can walk, potter around the house, work, or (if the book is really good) just stare at the ceiling while listening. I highly recommend the Audible app for anyone who enjoys multitasking while diving into a great story. And if you’re a fan of good reads and don’t mind going book-free, give Kindle a try for endless eBooks at your fingertips!
